Apache - default module optimization

Hello everyone, this is my first post to linuxquestions.org.

I recently recompiled my LAMPS configuration, and decided to compile static modules into apache. I then upgraded my RAM, and found that apache uses more RAM per instance than before. I understand WHY this is so, and I don't like it. :)

I am trying to optimize my apache compilation as to maintain the largest functionality with the smallest memory consumption.
I'm looking for ideas regarding static vs dynamic module compilation, module choices, etc, or resources pertaining to this topic? Basically, compile-time choices and modules.

For reference, mod_php4 I kept dynamic. I currently do not use mod_perl.

Slackware 8.1.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Ciao!
