Apache basic auth question

Can I password protect this:
http://whatever.com/path/file.html?v...t&var2=protect
but not this:
http://whatever.com/path/file.html?var1=test

with HTTP basic auth in .htaccess? so when var2=protect I want a password to be required.

eg.
AuthName "Whatever"
AuthUserFile "/path/passwd"
AuthType Basic
require valid-user

Maybe. See the <LocationMatch> directive.
