Apache & the .htaccess file
Does the Apache .htaccess file allow you to passwd protect directories as well as files?

AuthUserFile /usr/local/apache2/conf/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName "My Secret Page"
AuthType Basic

<Limit GET POST>
require valid-user

Should this work? Cause I don't get a promt to enter user/passwd when I access this directory on my webpage.

in httpd.conf check to make sure that lines 484 - aprx 490..
# This controls which options the .htaccess files in directories can
# override. Can also be "All", or any combination of "Options", "FileInfo",
# "AuthConfig", and "Limit"
AllowOverride None

if you change none to all it should work mabey perhaps
