Post Apache and PHP

I am building a web server to do some hosting for some web sites that I have and some of my friends. I am installing Apache 1.33, PHP 4.3.9 and MYSQL.

What I need to know is the best way of installing PHP? Module or CGI?

I've been doing the same thing (setiing up a server) in the last few weeks. From the info I've been able to gather, you need the mod_php to be able to use php in web far as I understand the plain php (cgi version) is only for comand-line php stuff. I've actually installed both (cgi first then mod_php) using gentoo and everything's running fine.
