Anyone with Kazaa Lite on Wine working, please help

Ok, I have been trying to get Kazaa Lite k++ 2.4.3 working under Wine for a few days now, changing DLL overrides, renaming stuff, etc., etc., and nothing I try works. So, do you think you guys could give me a hand?

a) What does your wine config file look like?
b) Did you rename anything?
c) What command do you use to run it with?
d) Anything else you did to make it work?

Also, please don't say use giFT. I have been trying, but even with the FastTrack plugin, it doesn't even come close to the speed and number of files that the Windows version gets.

I have it working perfectly right screenshot (except for a few graphical glitches and notice how the systray icon looks) but I can download just like in the windows version.
First of all you need the get the latests wine source and compile it yourself
then download kazaa lite (mine is version 2.4.3 espanol)
install kazaa with "wine kazaa_installer.exe" (That is not the correct name )
after that get this dlls from a windows 98 se
shdoclc.dll
shdocvw.dll
shlwapi.dll
commctrl.dll
comdlg32.dll
oleaut32.dll
ole32.dll
and add this to the end of you wine configuration file
Code:
;; Kazaa Lite
[AppDefaults\\KazaaLite.kpp\\DllOverrides]
"*" = "builtin, native, so"
"shdoclc" = "native"
"shdocvw" = "native"
"shlwapi" = "native"
"commctrl" = "native"
"comdlg32" = "native"
"oleaut32" = "native"
"ole32" = "native"
when you are done you are ready to start kazaa by doing
Code:
cd ~/.wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/Kazaa\ Lite\ K++/
wine kpp.exe
if it works you are in luck if it doesn't post any error messages you get

here is a small script for starting kazaa with the command "kazaa" at the console
Code:
#! /bin/bash
cd
~/.wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/Kazaa\ Lite\ K++/
exec wine kpp.exe
just save that as kazaa in /usr/bin/ and make it executable

Duran.

1. Your name reminds me of Duran Duran.
2. I will still answer your question.

Try playing with the wine config file. Then if you fail there's always MLdonkey.

Ya, i do. Why bother????

Just download giFT and grab the FastTrack plugin. Next grab Apollon to use as a graphical interface. I use this setup for Kazaa and you don't even have to have Kazaa on your computer. You can do it right through Linux natively and access the Peer-to-Peer network without Wine and the actual Kazaa program. You can also get a couple more plugins for giFT. I think Napster is still out there.

KaZaA is based on the gnutella network, and http://www.gnutella.com/ is the main site for it. There you can find downloads for clients that connect to it, and many are out there for Linux. I reccomend LimeWire basic, because it downloads faster than KaZaA lite or KaZaA and has a Linux version so that you don't have to mess with Wine. Notice the word GNU in gnutella?

What I (and I suppose the others) are trying to say is that there is no reason to use Wine unless you absolutely need to, and this is not a case that it's really required. However, if you go to Frank's corner and check out the list of programs that can be run in Wine and how to do it. I still reccomend using a native Linux client for gnutella though.

What? KaZaA's network it is NOT the same from GNUTella... it's the FastTrack network. It is so that giFT has a plugin for gnutella and FastTrack's network!!!

Oops, my bad. Well, the gnutella network is better anyway.
