Anyone using Ghostscript to create pdf files in Central Europe?
I have a long-standing (several years) problem when I use Ghostscript (ps2pdf) to create pdf files from documents originating from Windows platform.
I setup Ghostscript on a Linux server as a "virtual" postscript network printer; the windows clients print to this printer and the result is the pdf file on the server.
I found that the look of the pdf files created this way is only acceptable if the clients send true type fonts as outlines to the printer (ghostscript).
(Using the printer fonts resulted in wrong accented characters, while sending true type fonts as bitmap resulted in ugly-looking characters with very rough pixel resolution and big file size).
However, if I send true type fonts as outlines, the document will look great, but AcrobatReader's text search function does not work, and the text extract function produces only garbage, not the original text.
This is very annoying, and even unacceptable especially in the case of documents containing lists, which are very likely to be searched by users (who would get no results when searching even if the pdf file contains the searched text).
I think this problem may concern anyone using Ghostscript with CentralEuropean character sets.
Is there anyone who found a solution?
