anybody knows a good data recovery program that runs on linux?
Hi. I need to recover some lost data I accidentally deleted from an ext3 partition (the partition is not lost). I found a lot of ext3 recovery programs that run on winBlows. bullshit. So is there a good program that runs natively on linux? It doesn't need to be free, but it would be great if it would be. tks

I use photorec and foremost quite a bit for common document formats, movies, mp3's and pictures.
Usually I make an image of the partition with dd and run my recovery on that image on another machine. You'll get a lot of stuff back, including duplicates and some of the files might be mangled. But when people lose everything, getting something back is usually nice. |
I can confirm photorec works great, even without making an image first. I was able to recover everything after a paritioning slip-up; but larger files tend to be problematic. I was able to recover all of my movies by about half of them are "remastered", to put it that way. A movie will start fine but suddenly you get a fragment from a different one and then from yet a different one. I'm wondering whether this could be repaired using a video editing application.
