Any type of Windows themes for KDE?
Just wondering if there are any Windows (XP, 200) themes for Suse under KDE (586 rpm). Thanks

Take a look here. Most likely you will find what you seek in there ;)

Thanks but I've already explored there. The XP theme is in a tar .gz format. I am completely new to Linux but I understand tha Suse uses rpm's to install. Can I convert or how does that work?

Cool :). Well, I've answered your other thread, so when you read that, you will most likely know how to uncompress those files. Linux uses a hole lot (but not less then Windows does) file compressions as bunzip2, gunzip, tar, zip, rar and a few others. Probably, all you've to do is to download the file you are interested in, uncompress it and put in a folder somewhere where KDE themes are ;)

As far as I can remember there are such rpm floating around somewhere but could not remember. I got hold of one long time ago but has since dumped it. Who wants XP skin if there are more beautiful themes around for you to choose from?:p

What about this:-

However, so if I get this file --- kde_xp_full.tar.gz --- I should be able to unpack it, compile it and use it under Suse 9.1 even though Suse only recognizes(?) i586 rpm's?

cwchia-- whats your fav's? I've only found a few on that are OK where do you get your's?

suse doesnt only recognise RPM's.

RPMs are basicaly installers. they use a common format, you load the file into the rpm program, it installs it.

this next bit is how i understand it. pls correct me someone if im wrong.

.tgz or .tar.gz files are just archives, like .zip on ur windoesnt box. They are actualy 2 separate archive formats. .tar just lumps all the files together into one. it doesnt compress them. .gz (gzip) then compresses that single file. if i have understood it correctly, gzip can only compress single files, so multiple files are tar'ed 1st.

with the theme, just d/l the tar.gz, extract it (you should be able to double click on it and use a nice gooey gui, else use a console, cd to the directory, and type 'tar xzvf <filename>'). then copy/move the files to the location the themes go.

look around your configuration progs tho. they should make life easier.

I'm just too lazy to change the look. In fact Mandrake galaxy is preety enough.
