Any text editors with multiple split-screen capabilities?

I am looking for an editor or two that allow more than one screen splitting.

Geany seems only to be able to split the screen once. With screen size being what it is now, I could use at least 3 for what I want to do.

Or is there a list of text editors with their capabilities?

Hi,

I don't ever recall using a text editor that can't do this. Examples: emacs, vim, zile, jove, jed, mg, ...
Since I assume you are running X, you should also note that most gui text editors will let you open multiple windows.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with all the text editors and everything I tried so far doesn't allow vertical splitting very well if at all.

If you want to try vi have a look at the windows.txt file. Located here: /usr/share/vim/vim72/doc/windows.txt (72 might be different depending on your vi version).

Maybe this will help as well: articles about split on VIM Wikia

Which one?

It would be a good idea to tell us which one you have chosen, others looking for something similar might benefit.
