Any recommendations for map, atlas or navigation applications?

Google Earth isn't working out for me. The Windows version seems to make better use of my video card, and doesn't forget everything when I log out; but this is a discussion for another day, perhaps.

So are there other map or atlas applications out there that you would recommend?

Thanks.
