Any graphical partition apps for KDE?
 

I made the mistake of giving windows about half of my harddrive, when I don't even boot into windows anymore because I installed WineX! (I wuvs tux) and a little over half of my linux partition is already filled, mostly because of UT's 5 gig install. Anyway I can mess around with partitions while in X?

I think but dont quote me that partition magic installed on Windows has the ability to shrink your windows partition and allocate the reclaimed space to a linux partition, or what might be safer is to shrink the windows partition and with the reclaimed space, allocate it to a brand new partition and mount it sperately.

In the Mandrake Control Center you have this. (Mount Points -> Partitions)

Be careful - working with partitions is aways dangerous. Back-up your data.

If you want to reclaim disk space for Linux you'll need to not only resize but also move the windows partition. The graphical partition editor in Mandrake can resize partitions but not move them (i.e. the lower partition border will stay put).

So I think you'll have to use PQMagic or similar -- try searching sourceforge for "partition magic"!

In the mandrake control center, all I see for actions when I select the windows partition is to unmount. I dont want to exactly unmount... just resize... :S

QTParted is a graphical partition manager; it's a Partition Magic lookalike. It's included in Knoppix, so you could run it from a Knoppix live-CD. Use Knoppix's "noswap" option to ensure it doesn't mount anything from your hard drive.

You can't resize a partition while it's mounted.

ok i resized windows a smaller space, now I got all this unfilled blank spot on my hard drive i want to fill up with my current linux native partition (the one i have all my data on, just want to make it bigger) I select it, and I knew this probably wouldnt work, but I click unmount and nothing happened, so I couldnt resize it (figured though because I was working in linux when I try'd to unmount it) Any help?

If you are running off of a liveCD, like Knoppix, then it's possible to run QTParted with none of your hard drive partitions mounted. In particular, whichever partition is your normal boot partition doesn't need to be mounted.

Depending on the location of your swap partition (if any), you may need to boot up Knoppix with the "noswap" option. In any case, booting with the "noswap" option is a good idea.
