Any good hex mapping programs?

just curious if there are any good mapping programs that are hex-based. Basically, it would start with a hex sheet, then I could click on each hex and insert a different terrain type. I know there are a couple XP programs that do thisk, but I no longer have that (Vista on new computer now). Anyways, thanks!

You installed Vista and are willing to admit it in this forum???

Seriously, you might want to explain what a hex-based mapping program is. Some of us might know of such things by other names.

Vista came on the new computer I bought, so I have it. And since I play a hell of a lot of games, I'm stuck with Windows. And honestly, other than being a RAM hog, Vista is a good OS.

Anyways, a hex mapping program is a program that lets me make terrain maps, etc, but on a hex grid. Kind of like the old maps in DnD games.

You should be able to do this in a vector-graphic program such as inkscape. Here is an example of someone doing just what you’re talking about.
