Any alternatives to VMWare?

Sometimes there's a need for me to use Windows but its on a pretty rare occasion. I was going to do a dual boot but because I don't use Windows so much, it would be less productive for me to reboot each time I need Windows and then go back to Linux when I'm done. So I researched emulators that allows me to run another desktop on top of Linux. I heard of VMWare but I also know there's a few others out there but I don't remember what they are called. Do you guys know of any others and which one is most stable?

I used qemu for a while, it's damn good and it's free. The only hard part I found was creating an image file in FAT32 format to use as a virtual disk to stick windows on...I used tools from another virtual machine for that...(bochs?)
