you could also try Dr. Web, which is what comes with Mandrake 9.2 i believe.

(or http://drweb.ru/ if you can read Russian ;) )

Can windows viruses affect linux if it's running wine or vmware?

vinay_s_s 12-18-2003 10:00 AM

NOPE only the windows in vmware is affected but nothing of LINUX is affected !!!
LINUX= virus free -- completely!

aparently thats not completely true....
there have been somthing like 20 virii / worms for linux since it was created...
and about 4 are currently loose on the internet..

BUT... when there are billions for windows,
and you have to be dumb enough to log in as root for the 4 possible linux virii to affect you,, you should be safe.

just only install / compile from trusted locations... and if u dont trust, inspect the source code first.

i would... if i understood it :newbie:

I guess the reason why there are so little virii available for linux is b/c almost everyone that can program for linux puts it to use in a positive way, and also the most blant fact being that windoze has sh*t loads of holes.

I hope it stays this way.... :D

juanb, that depends of the mta that you use, i use redhat, qmail, qmail-scanner and clamav, works fine for me, good look

ScooterB 12-22-2003 09:34 AM

I know it isn't free, but Vexira works really well on our system. I am running Sendmail as the MTA on RH9. I am using the Milter version of Vexira and the annual license is trivial considering I am running a network of nothing but WinXP Pro machines on the Network and we all know how suseptable they are. Take a look at the website: www.centralcommand.com or just type in Vexira in your search engine. It's worth a look if you have any MS machines.
