anoying Firefox download setting

I'm not sure if this is default behaviour or just a wrong setting. Downloading a .gz file true Firefox opens the file. Thats not what I want. For example the link on the Bluez kernel-patch page:

patch page

Shows the patch-2.6.9-mh3.gz link. Clicking it opens it and right clicking just doesn't give an ' save as' option (save link as tries to save redirect.php). Is there a way to make Firefox just use the download manager like with other files (ask to open or to save)

Regards

EDIT -> Preferences -> Downloads -> and go to the file types. Change its action and choose to save to disk. Problem solved.

And in the download manager, select "Ask me where to save "

Well, I checked filetypes but only bittorrent is listed (using azureus which is fine) I don't seem to be able to add a file type and since .gz isn't listed I can't see why it doesn't use the setting: ask me where to save every file .....weird!

Ctrl+S works indeed! Thanx, but isn't this a bit much work just to download a simple file?

the file you wanted to download is a compressed text, and the browser handle this as text file.
On the other hand you couldn't do save link because the link was a php redirection script.
It's a rare case.

Thanx, that explains it. CTRL+S does indeed work in those rare cases so you helped me perfectly!
