Another Sound Quetion

I am sry if this has been asked before and it probably has...i know i have read it somewhere but i can't find it...ok here is the problem...i just reinstalled redhat 8.0 on a second hdd and i am using kde. Now when i installed the mp3 plugin for xmms the music was awsome it worked slick and perfect. However when i rebooted i got some info msg saying that it could find sound card or something like that from i/o and that it will continue using null sound. The msg was something like that i really can't remember. Any suggestions on what i can do? now the mp3's don't play at the right speed and there isn't any sound. I haven't tried sound detection yet "after" i rebooted but before it worked fine will have to try again later. thx again for all of yalls help.

EDIT: my sound plays at the right speed...i change the output driver to aRts Driver 0.4 However there is still no sound. I have changed around input drivers but can't find the source to the problem and sndconfig doesn't help much.
