Annoying qmail problem

Hi,
I'm in the process of installing, configuring and testing qmail. I've set up my machine with the Maildir/ delivery method and it seems that the emails are going to the correct folders but when I enter "mail" to check if new mail has arrived I'm told that there is no new mail for user.

I didn't install any other mta on the machine when I installed it (btw - it's Mandrake 9.1) but /var/spool/mail exists on the machine. Any ideas on how I can get the /bin/mail program to see new the new mail in the ~/Maildir/ folders?

Mail is unlikely to check that directory. You will need to set up a pop or IMAP server to look at the Maildir folders.

Thanks. I think I forgot a part of the installation to symbolically link to a file.
