animation plugins for gimp

has anyone used the animation plugins in gimp? If so i wanted to know how sophiscated they are. I have an animation class and we use director mx2004 but i want to try to make a project in linux to show that it has the same power minus the 1200 it cost for director.

Here's an article about the latest (I think) package of animation tools: http://www.gnomedesktop.org/article.php?sid=1623

And here's a link to where you can get it: ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/plug-ins/v2.0/gap/

Hope this is what you're looking for.

what is the difference between filmgimp and regular gimp? Can i make movies with film gimp or is it basically to edit photos to get ready for film prodcution. When i turned on film gimp it seemed identical to the version i already had intalled. I was hoping for more of a film editing program. Is there any opensource film editors that use a timeline like adode priemere?
