Amule problem on Suse 9.2 - Thanks

To whom it may concern

I have the application Amule install on my Suse 9.2 machine but when I click on the icon for Amule nothing happens.

The icon clock on the bottom of the Suse Panel Menu, than nothing happens; the application closed and disappear.

I reinstall Amule and I'm still getting the same error.

Does anybody happens to know if there's a conflict between Edonkey & Amule? I'm running both on my Suse desktop.

Thanks

if you start up a terminal window and run it manually you should get some error messages that may help you see what's going on.
I don't use amule i presume you just type "amule" from the terminal?

while installing you must check dependancies.
it won't work without wxGTK

thanks Slack and niknah for your advise.

Hey Slack .. I download the lastest version of wxGTK (ver 2.4.2.4-138.i586rpm) and I install it on my Suse 9.2 machine. ... Amule is still not working.

Nicknah ... I ran Amule on a X Terminal and I type the command Amule
This is the error Message I got.

GTK- Critical **: file gtktes.c: line 906 (Gtk_test_get_length:assertion “gtk_is_text (text) failed

Gtk-Critical ** file gtkeditable.c : line 489 (gtk_editable_get_chars):assertion “gtk_is_editable (Editable) failed

Gtk_critical ** file gtktext.c line 906 (gtk_text_get_length): assertion “Gtk_is_text (text) failed

Gtk-Cirtical ** gtkeditext.c : line 2308 (Gtk text adjusment) assertion gtk is text failed
Gtk-critical *** file gtkwidget.c line 1428 gtk widget show assert gtk is widget failed

OOPS – Seems like Amule crashed version 2.0.0rc7 using wxGTK1 v2.4.2

Go to Amule site. check dependancies. If I'm not mistaken you need 2 packages of wxGTK
Base and something else. Do not remember now. It's been time since I used Suse.
There is other option, however. Install apt-get for suse

Grrr... I'm on Suse 9.2 here, I have the wx_GTK version that came with suse 9.2 - 2.5.2!

I've downloaded the latest amule rpm for suse but its saying ...
Failed dependencies:
libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0 is needed by aMule-2.0.0rc8-1
libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0(WXGTK_2.4) is needed by aMule-2.0.0rc8-1

However, I have wxgtk2.5.2 installed!

What gives?

Need to get amule installed!

Another thing.. whats the "locate" command in the konsole for suse. To find a file in Fedora that can't be found with "whereis" I type.. "locate filename".

Yeah I have the same problem ... it is definately strange I have all the dependencies installed and I still get that error. I get similar errors with all p2p software using Suse .... maybe im just an idiot and cant figure it out but its really starting to be annoying.

I've got apollon/gift installed OK. Managed to solve that locate thing, needed to install package "findutils-locate".

Surely someone can crack the Amule issue, its crucial that I can run amule. I guess I could un-install the GTK versions Suse provided and install the older packages.

No, you load up the terminal (konsole)

Then type... locate searchname

It's purely a command line thing. You will need to run "updatedb" at the command line before the locate tool works correctly.
