That's a bug of aMSN, although, the CVS version has the option to not show when they open the windows, just when they type message. So you only get a window when someone is talking to you.
The CVS version is stable enough, and it has tabs for the conversations as well.

In Tools>Peferences>Advanced>My Event Alerts and Sounds , you can select what events you want alert windows for.

And Hammett, displaying notification windows is a FEATURE, not a bug!

In stable version (0.94) you don't have the feature to only open the windows when someone sends you a message. For some reason, when you log in, you get plenty of windows opened with no apparent reason. The option to "block" this behaviour only appears in CVS version (0.95b).
I call it a bug because when you get that window opened, the owner of the window (ie, the people who appears on the nick) haven't really opened you a query window. So, getting windows opened with no text on it, and the fact that the guy on the other side haven't opened the window to talk, i consider it a bug, cause it shouldn't happen.
