My system is running CentOS 4.2. A few weeks ago, I wrote a PHP script that had a never ending loop with a bug in it. This bug was logged millions of times in the apache error log causing the log to take up the remainder of the hard drive. At this point, many of the system services were dysfunctional. I removed the file, and for some reason amavisd still did not function correctly.
Restarting amavisd twice demonstrates this:
Quote:
[root@srv1 ~]# service amavisd restart
Shutting down Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd): [FAILED]
Starting Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd): [ OK ]
[root@srv1 ~]# service amavisd restart
Shutting down Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd): [FAILED]
Starting Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd): [ OK ]
[root@srv1 ~]#

This is the message I am getting in /var/log/maillog:

As you can see, amavisd is not starting properly. I have tried uninstalling and then installing again with yum, yet, no avail.
Temporarily, I have removed this line from main.cf so that I can at least receive mail:
Quote:
content_filter = smtp:127.0.0.1:10024
|
I could just leave this line out, but I really need virus scanning to work.
Perhaps this is something very simple in which I am overlooking? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
