Hi. I have installed amarok 2.0.2 latest version using synaptic in UBUNTU desktop, latest version.
THe problem is amarok plays nothing! And gives me no error message. It just don't play anything. I right click on folders using its explorer, select LOAD, but it doesn't load anything. When it does, it jumps from one music to the next 'till it gets to the end of my playlist.
I have tried to restart the PC, reinstall it with synaptics, but nothing works. I'm even thinking about try to do something to install an older version of it.
Don't remember if this was with Amarok or whether you are facing the same problem that I have seen. But I have seen similar problems. Are you trying to play mp3? Distros like fedora does not provide the codec to handle mp3. So, some players just skip them and do not produce any useful error message.
I had the same problem as well. Are you using the xine or gstreamer back end for phonon? The issue went away for me after switching to the xine back end and then logging out. When I logged in again the issue was gone.
Hi. I don't know if the codecs I have installed are integrated with amarok, but I can play just fine any audio file with my other music player softwares, like Rhythmbox, and the standard movie player that comes along with ubuntu / gnome.

I have no ideia what you're talking about.
One thing that pissed me off besides this problem is that Amarok has no option for you to configure the sound, like selecting alsa, OSS, and other options like other music players offer. The only things you get in amarok's configuration window are tray icon option and some bullshiit appearance options.
Hit ALT+F2 and type in systemsettings. Select Sound or Multimedia in the lower right hand corner. Select the backend tab and it will let you know which one you are using.
this command doesn't work here. Says "could not open location file:///home/eu/systemsettings".
I tried to use the terminal but even with root, there is no command spelled like systems*
Ah, now we have a problem. I believe the issue is with your phonon configuration and the only way I know how to change the settings is with the System Settings tool in KDE. I did search my home directory for phonon config files. I found /home/$USER/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc and a couple in /home/$USER/.config/kde.org. To be honest I have no idea how to edit the files manually. I did find this. While it doesn't help you it did give me an idea. Have you considered using the Project Neon PPA?

Again, I don't knwo what a phonon is. The only time I have ever heard about it was in physics, and it's about the vibration of a crystaline lattice. lol... Nothing to do with computers I think..
Anyway, the things you are posting are for KDE, and as I told you, I use Gnome. Ubuntu comes with gnome only. Kunbuntu is the one that comes with KDE. I could have installed KDE by myself, but I didn't.

No clue how it would help... Probablely because I don't know what phonon is.

First time I heard about it. So, i didn't considered using it yet.
How can I install an older version of amarok? MAybe it could solve the problem easier. I tried the option package -> force version in synaptic, but this option is blocked for amarok. I think it is blocked because synaptic has found only one version for it... I would have to add a new repository to do so, I think.
I apologize for not being clearer. In this instance amarok is using phonon as a sound system and I believe the issue is with you phonon configuration. Since version 2.1 it is possible to configure phonon using amarok. That was why I recommended the Project Neon PPA. Here are instructions for installing an older version of amarok.
Thanks for the link. Seems very easy to install an older version.
Now that I understood what phonon is about, and since you said my configuration might be wrong, how can someone change his phonon configurarion? Is there a command? A GUI app? If I can get a configuration menu for it, I can try to change some things and see if it will work.
I didn't mentioned here, but I posted this question somewhere else, and three or four guys have pop up there saying they are having the same problem. After reading your link to install an older version of amarok, it seems a lot of people are having the same problem. Good to know I'm not alone here :-)
The gui for configuring phonon is in the KDE4 program System Settings. Also, amarok 2.1 and later have a gui for configuring it. As far as configuring it from the command line or editing config files, I have no idea. But I think I may have a few beers and give it a try.

I didn't find it in any of the menu options of amarok. The only configuration options I found were "configure amarok" (just crap, appearence options), and "configure shortcuts".
Do you know if there is a menu for it in GNOME or if I can install one (what would be its name)?
