Alternative to Elvis editor

Hello, would you know other possible editors that are similar to Elvis, which is vi, and vim?

thank you

I am not sure what you mean by "similar" in this context, but there are MANY editors for Linux.
See these pages for lists:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catego...x_text_editors

My personal go-to editor is VIM (vi) for the terminal, GVIM for gui.

What's wrong with Elvis? He's not really dead, you know. Why, he was seen last week in Nova Scotia ...

Elvis is a vi clone.

Elvis doesn't support Unicode which might be a problem. The obvious choice is vim, but if you need something lighter there is a traditional vi implementation with UTF-8 support.

:) I know! Just being a smarta*s. Again. :)

I think that just about every "vi" word has been used by now. For instance, there's not only "vim" but also "vigor." But Elvis is the only one that will sing to you while you work. ;)

A problem with the terminal editors under Linux is that Elvis (or all VI alternatives) are mostly programmed on ncurses/termcap. The choice of termios, ioctl,... would be probably better.
