alsactl not saving settings

Hi all,
I'm running on a completely up to date Slackware 9.1 system and I can't seem to get my system to correctly remember the volumes levels I set. Obviously this is only a minor nuisence but still one I would like to get worked out. I've tried setting my volume levels under alsamixer and then su'ing to root and executing 'alsactl store' which doesn't return any error or warning messages, and yet, the sound levels all default to zero and muted when I reboot the system. Any ideas? I've briefly scanned my system logs and I don't appear to have any errors generated there....

Try using a bootscript that runs at startup and shutdown read the bottom half of this page http://linuxfromscratch.tuxcenter.ne...lsa-utils.html

and maybe add :
alsactl restore
alsactl store
in your modules.conf file

when you run alsactl store it writes the changes to /etc/asound.state, so by restoring the settings then store them it should technically work ...
