alsa drivers

Hi all. I am installing kde and some other multimedia stuff on 2.4.18 and am having some problems dealing with alsa. cat /proc/pci | grep sound gives me this:

ESS Technoloy es1969 solo-1 audiodrive

the kernel has a driver for solo-1, but the closest thing in alsa was es1968. Are these two drivers compatable? If not, is there anything i can do to work around it?
