ALSA Config Sound Problem

I just installed Slackware Linux 10 on my Alienware Area-51m and i upgraded to kernel 2.4.27.

This happened when i had kernel 2.4.26 and i didnt know how to change it but..my sound is in half duplex mode. I am playing a song in xmms and then talking on gaim and then once i stop my song on xmms all of the gaim sounds start to play because the device is open. Does anyone know how to fix this?
