I was using alsa-0.9.2. There was no problem.
I decided to get the new version 0.9.7 - there is a sound and really bad noise most the time . I tried 0.9.6 - the same result.
I am using snd-intel8x0 driver on Slackware 9.0
Any suggestions ?

are you really using the alsa drivers?
type in:
lsmod
and paste the result here...

hmm well you have all the modules installed - If I understand you post - things worked great until you upgraded.

For this reason I would prolly remove all the snd modules:
modprobe -R snd-module
and then reinstall the latest modules from your upgrade. If that all fails - uninstall and reinstall ALSA completely.

Nothing helps.

Sounds like my neighborhood with all the goofs out there with their loud thumping noise blasters in their vehicles.



Have you considered just going back to 0.9.2 ?

have you tried adjusting the sound levels per chance???
