Alsa and XMMS?

My sound is working ok, but i would like to use the XMMS presets that i loaded. It worked before i installed the new Slack 10 , but now when i choose a preset it doesn't work. I don't care for the Alsamixer all that much. Is that what is messing it up...the Alsamixer? I never had Alsamixer installed before, so i am guessing that is it defaulting to it.

To save the mixer's settings (which xmms will use for its audio output anyways), use (as root),

alsactl store

That should do the trick . If I misunderstood yoru question, sorry :S. I think that is what your looking for.

What i want to do is be able to use the XMMS presets...like Rock, Soft Rock, Large Hall. When i select anyone of them on the list it makes no difference in the sound. I don't know if Alsa if even keeping that from working or not; it was just a thougt. All i know is that the presets worked before. I never used the Alsamixer before. To me it sounds better with the XMMS presets.

The presets in the XMMS Equilizer then? The Alsamixer controls volume levels for each channel (Main, Wave Output, Mic Input, etc...). The eq will change / enhance the music according to what your presets are set to (More bass, treble, or less, etc....). Make sure the eq is turned on in XMMS, as well as the presets being loaded.

Ok, disregard this post. I rebooted and it works now. I have no idea why it wouldn't work before?

Check that your output plugin is actuall ALSA, and not OSS. That may help it. If you don't have the plugin, download it.

hello!
well I have a sound problem.

only one program can use sound card in one moment. When I try to use sound server (enable sound server) it opens small window with message Error while initializing the sound driver.....
I'm using ALSA (fresh instalation Slack 10 - default 2.4.26 kernel). When I tried with eSound it is okay but every time when I boot mu comp I need to restart sound server.. Also sound is much better with ALSA then with eSound.
How to fix my alsa problem to more than one program use sound card in one time? For example XMMS and to have system sounds.

thanks!!!

Try enabling the sound again, but when you log off choose...save current setup.
