Alsa

Does anyone know how to get sound working properly for the intel8x0 module for an alienware area51m and gentoo linux?

I just emerged all of the alsa packages...and i just have sound running in half duplex..and it says the ALSA modules arent loaded when i shutdown and certain programs can't find the sound card.

Anyone with any ideas please post..i'm desperate for help..lol

hi,
what do you mean half duplex ?
and please give the output of "lsmod"
if you mean no software mixing
the ~/.asoundrc at the top of this page might help ?
http://opensrc.org/alsa/index.php?page=intel8x0
also here
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...odule=intel8x0
some users have written in with various ~/.asoundc settups for variouse chipsets

sorry i didnt mean half duplex..

what i meant was it was only able to play one sound at a time..and other sounds had to wait until /dev/dsp opened and then played.

lsmod is blank..nothing is loaded...

I dont have a ~/.asoundc file..

All i did was emerge the alsa files..and sound worked a little bit for me..

I had this same problem with slackware though..

I read the second link about the installation of the intel8x0 module..i'm not exactly sure how to do it in gentoo..isnt it a little different?

Also, i'm not exactly 100% sure i need the intel8x0 module..i believe i have the SiS7012 chipset in my Alienware Area-51m...when i do lspci i dont get a chipset number..just SiS: Silicon Integrated Systems.
