alsa 1.0.2c on installation questions
I am a linux noobie, trying to install alsa on the new 2.6.3 kernel for redhat 8. I followed the INSTALL doc included in the alsa download to a point, but get a little confused. After doing ./configure, make and make install, the instructions say to run ./snddevices UNLESS you have DEVFS installed. I do have a devfs folder so I suspect it is installed. Is there a way to confirm this? Also, the instructions say to modify the modules.conf file using the kmod section below, but the kmod section does not include kernel 2.6.3. What changes do I need in the modules.conf section? Thanks in advance.

ALSA drivers are included with the 2.6.x kernel. Have you tried using those drivers?
I run a devfs and ran snddevices and it was fine Also, you will need to run alsaconf to initialize the right settings and stuff. Also, 2.6.x uses modprobe.conf instead of modules.conf It's rather annoying... hope that helps. |
