aliases issue using /etc/aliases

I am able to send a mail message to myself from a server without any problem...

But after I have updated /etc/aliases and added the line for all of root's mail to be routed to me....

Added:
root: myemail@company.com

and ran newaliases to implement it....

If I send a mail message to root, it does not get routed to my email...

Any suggestions ??

You didn't say what smtp server you're using, but anyway did you restart it after running newaliases?

Using sendmail (sendmail-8.13.1-3.3.el4)

The issue appears to be with the /etc/aliases, I've done a newaliases command and restarted sendmail but in the maillog file, outgoing mail is being sent to root, whereas, on working servers, the email address that is in the /etc/aliases file is being used, which is what I would expect to happen...

do you see any pointers in the logfiles, if you sent the mail?
