Afterstep goes in but it doesn't come out...

I just spent 10 minutes installing Afterstep 2.2.1 and 20 minutes uninstalling it.

Although it's an unusual and very flashy wm, the make uninstall doesn't work for sh$t and I had to track down a few dozen files it didn't delete. Not good, fellas.

Just in case you like to try different wms and also like keeping your system clean. This one coulda been a contendah, but the sloppy-ass installation doesn't leave me with the warm fuzzy I hoped for.

Goodbye, Afterstep; we hardly knew ya.

If I were to do this, I would install in a separate directory such that removing it would be as simple as removing that directory.

Recently, I installed Fluxbox and since I just wanted to check it out, I installed it in /usr/X11R6/fluxbox. I ran it through Xnest to check it out and if I wanted to chuck it, I would simply remove /usr/X11R6/fluxbox and be done with it.

If you're installing from a pre-built package, you might be screwed, unless your distro's installer has a reliable uninstaller.

If you're installing from source, you're set.

What's so unusual about it? I've used it in the past and I still have it installed. I like the NeXTSTEP UI.

I can't say as I blame you for uninstalling it - I REALLY didn't like it.

When I installed AfterStep, it decided to change all of my GTK/KDE window decorations/colours. The window-border styles are still there, but the colours on them are all f***ed up.

I haven't read of anyone else having this problem, and I feel as though I'm in the dark on this one. I installed it with urpmi (I'm running Mandriva2006) and, even after I uninstalled it, the colour change still stuck.

If anyone could offer any pointers on how to change the colours back, that would be great!

Sorry I was doing some other stuff and missed a lot of replies. I built it from source but it went in a bunch of places. The config script was all messed up and that's one of the reasons I wrote this post. Like I said, it goes in and doesn't come out.

What's unusual? I can't remember but it had nice combinations of buttons and animations and menus. All kinds of interesting things to look at. But not worth it.
