Afterstep and aterm

I'm running Red Hat 9 and have been convinced by this page:

-- The transparent emacs is amazing --

to switch over to Afterstep and aterm. Does anyone know how I should go about doing this for Red Hat. I am somewhat concerned about it not working properly...and don't want it to mess up my system. Is there some way to install these for 1 user...and then, if I like it, make the changes system-wide.

In other words, I want my main user to continue loading the window manager the same way...and I want another experimental user to try out afterstep and aterm.

On a side note, if anyone knows how to get emacs transparent without have to load Afterstep and aterm...could you tell me how?

as long as your term program supports transparency on the windows..you just turn that on and run emacs from command line...badaboom badabing...it seems like aterm supports full transparancy on the whole damn window tho :)

on a side note.. thanks for the links ...that cataclysm background is sweet...

Openbox offers the possibility of removing decorations on the fly... talk about complete transperancy if using aterm.
