Advice..

Is there any known ways to earn money using Linux until I land my first junior linux admin job ? I am an experienced user and read several books and run linux since 10 years or so now.. Doesn't have to be a lot of money but I do have alot of free time and would like to start in the linux field as a professional. Perhaps something I could start myself? But I prefer a steady income.. Any help/opportunities advice would be nice, thanks

Hi -

As far as finding a job - with or without experience - good luck. I'm not sure where you're located, or what your skill set is - but it's tough.

However....

If you really want to be a Linux admin ... then experience *does* help.

I'd strongly encourage you to *volunteer*: school, a church group, a non-profit organization you belong to/you're interested in. Your volunteer work is experience you can put on a resume ... and just the act of volunteering is likely to open doors.

Again: good luck!

Sincerely .. PSM

Being an experienced user and reading books will probably not be enough to convince any human resource manager. You should get some kind of qualification certificate at least, though a full fledged IT study is preferred. For a real job you should train your written and verbal communication skills, and probably your own style in terms of appearance. In a perfect world only true dedication and honesty would count, but in corporate business life you need the looks and some certification papers.
