There is not that cable port on my modem....
but thanks for ur help. :) |
Same modem here. Ericsson isn't giving drivers and my isp isn't giving linux support for this. Worst thing is, the modem isn't being giving out anymore by my isp, so I doubt it there will ever be linux support/drivers :(

You may be able to trade your modem in, and get a new one. It doesn't matter if your ISP supports linux or not, we will be able to get you on the net if you have a linux compatible modem. The modems that are the easiest to set up, are the ones that connect to your computer via network cable. (you don't need a driver for those.) However, you must have a network card in your computer.

That's my problem, my isp doesn't do drugs, errr trading :P

If you are will to spend a few bucks, go to www.ebay.com and search for 'dsl modem', you will get plenty of results.

Do you mean ethernet modem with an ethernet card? I do have one but both the card and the modem need to be installed. I haven't tried if I can get the drivers of them, but the model of that modem is also strange and not popular in the market. @_@ |
I'm not sure if we are understanding each other. I will just tell how I am connected using linux. I have my computer set up on my desk, with the dsl modem right next to it. I have a network cable running from my computer to the modem. Of course the modem need power, so I pugged it in. And since dsl needs a phone line, I ran a phone cord from the modem to a phone jack that's behind my desk. And best of all, no driver needed.
Hope this helps, Noah |

ethernet card is where your cable get connet with ur computer, it can be inside the computer or can be a separate one. Maybe linux have the driverit itself so you don't have to install and it can be used automatically. :) I only need to set the ip address when i use that modem under winxp but I think maybe i need a driver for linux. My laptop is rather strange and many of its hardwares need a special driver, even the monitor... but anyway, solving problem is a way of learning for me. ^-^ btw, thax again. :) :) |
Try opening up your browser, and type the ip address in the bar. Then follow the same steps that you use for windows.
