So what happens when you run "acroread" from a terminal?

That could be a problem with selinux. Try disabling selinux (type in "setenforce 0") and run "acroread"? If it runs, uninstall Acrobat Reader, then as root, type in "setenforce 0" then reinstall Adobe Reader.
