Adobe flash player not installed.
 

I am having trouble with adobe flash player 10 in ubuntu 8.10 using firefox 3, I installed it from packages but every time I go to look at a video or what ever I get flash player not installed so if anyone can please tell me what I should do.

I installed it again and read the details when it was completed and although it said the install was succesfull this was at the end (Sha256sum mismatch install_flash player_10_linux.tar.gz plugins not installed

However, the 8.10 release has reached its "end of life" and is no longer supported in any way. I would recommend installing the current release (10.04) unless you have a specific reason to run an obsolete installation.

Is the file libflashplayer.so resident in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins?

Thanks for the replies, I tried 10.04 and no way would it connect to wireless and this is the case with two newish Dell computers one of which I have installed openSUSE 11.3 and I don't see any difference from ubuntu but it would not install in the dell in question. I have had Linux for at least 8 years now and will try to stick to it. I have used 8.04 since it came out but again it would not install in these computers be course of (initramfs) but I will use your information to see if I can get adobe going. I have not yet tried Frank Bells suggestion.

A friend of mine tried Ubuntu recently with a Dell and couldn't connect via wireless. Ubuntu is hiding the wireless drivers under System->Administration->Device Drivers. You have to enable the proprietary drivers for your wireless card if they're there (sorry if you tried this and they didn't show up).

After that, At least in Ubuntu 9 and 10, Adobe Flash can be found in the Software installation Center. Just search for "Adobe Flash".

Should you have success with enabling wireless I strongly recommend you switch to a supported release of Ubuntu. 10.04.1 ships with three years of support thus making it the best option, but 9.10 Karmic Koala is also currently supported.

Also I'm assuming you are running a 32-bit system? If you are running 64-bit then installing flash is a different animal.
