adnxs popups in my firefox on every page i open

Hello Guys,

Well I have been facing a unique problem from a some days. Whenever I open firefox, I see adnxs.com pop ups on every web page that I open. It's a security breach of some kind. I don't know how it happend.

I have uploaded a screenshot of what I see.

I see the ads on every page that I open.. How can I remove this virus or malware from my Linux box? How could they reach my computer ?? :S

I use fedora 15 and firefox 12.0.

Thanks in advance for your help.

that is a cookie that was set

likely a tracking cookie

however you have a MUCH bigger problem than a cookie
Fedora 15 is unsupported and has been for the last YEAR
there have been NO security updates for a year -- not good

Also firefox 12.0 is now 9 versions out of date !
The current firefox is firefox 21

please upgrade ASAP
to install fedora 18 you will need to do a new clean install of 18
then firefox in fedora 18 will auto update to 21.0

hmm using preupgrade I could only upgrade to Fedora 17. I guess I will first upgrade to 17 and then from there I could upgrade to 18.

As for the cookies.. Do I get rid of them just by clearing the hisotry etc? Because I did that but it didn't work.. :S

Completely off-topic but be careful: IIRC it's Fedora 17 that introduces the /bin /sbin > /usr/{b,sb}in/ unification so you will want to backup first.

If this is purely a cookie thing then you may want to delete your cookies (selctively) and then unset "Accept third-part cookies". It also helps to be selective about Javascript using either the NoScript plugin or Privoxy if you're looking for a browser-agnostic solution.

The funny thing is that, I selectively deleted the cookies.. Restarted firefox..

But i don't know how, as i open firefox again, those cookies are restored automatically.

Any idea why and how this could be happening ?

install ad block plus on firefox 21
and have a look at using "no-script"
no-script however will NEED configuring and that can take a week or so to tweak the settings .

also sites can install 5 to 20 different cookies
all doing different things

also depending on the flash installed there can be persistent flash cookies
in a hidden .adobe or .flash folder
