Admin tools


I use 'sam' funtion in unix previous , now i turn to use linux, is there any grapical interface tools for system admin eg, change change kernel, add user etc. ? Thx.

I'm not sure about this, but for adding users etc. could be done in your control panel depending on what distro your using....for changing the kernel, i have not done yet, but there is a GUI frontend for editing kernels, isn't there...hmm frontend...is that the word

It also depends on the vendor of OS, for instance RedHat used to supply linuxconf, now it is devided into peices, Mandrake has its own *drake suites, userdrake, etc. Slackware .... well, there's command line interface provided by any distribution that is a backend to all GUI's written out there fro *NIX - plus it is much faster.

A great front-end for sys-admin is webmin http://www.webmin.com

Here you can control alot of systen related stuff and serverhandling.

To have a graphic front-end for kernel compile, go into the dir holding your kernel source and write: make xconfig
