Adjust contrast Xorg

Does anyone know how to adjust the contrast in xorg. I am aware of the xgama, but since I am using a laptop, I can't adjust the contrast of the screen from the hardware and would be like to adjust it with software. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything. I am using Gentoo 2005.1 ~x86 and fglrx drivers.

Ok so I managed to find a program called DDC Control and I installed it but can't use it. When I run the program I get:

Code:

No monitor supporting DDC/CI available.
If your graphics card need it, please check all the required kernel modules are loaded (i2c-dev, and your framebuffer driver).

I have a Inspiron 8600 with the 15.4in. WSXGA at 1680x1050

I have the i2c-dev integrated into the kernel and I have the radeonfb as well as the ddc/i2c for ATI radeon support integrated also. I am running the fglrx driver and I am also aware of the lock caused by using the radeonfb and fglrx at the same time, this only happens when I try and restart or shutdown from gdm. I would really like to get the contrast adjusted since by default, in windows, the ATI driver has custom settings from Dell and the display looks alot nicer than in linux.

k, update 2:

I won't be able to use that program, since radeonfb spits out:
Code:

Non-DCC Laptop Panel Detected
Guess I am back to square one of having no way to adjust contrast!
