This is the contents of my grub.conf:

#GRUB menu file
default 0
timeout 30
fallback 1
title Linux
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hdc1

title WinXP
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
rootnoverify (hd1,0)
chainloader +1

The maps are necessary so that windows thinks its the only os on the system. Rootnoverify tells grub just to load windows and not try to understand it (cause grub wont be able to) and the chainloader states that there will be one more bootloader before the windows kernel gets loaded (in this case ntldr, the windows loader)

hope this helps!
