OK, if your joystick port is on a soundcard, then look through ALSA's doccies for the soundcard module and see if it has mpu-401 support built in. If it doesn't, or you have an IO/card with the joystick port on it, then you will need the ALSA module mpu-401 ... probably another kernel module as well ...
If you are using Mandrake And an USB pad Then you need to load some extra modules:
Code:
modprobe usb-uhci
modprobe joydev
modprobe hid
If the above works, you might want to add "usb-uhci", "joydev" and "hid"(without the word modprobe) to your /etc/modules so it will make the pad/stick to work on boot .

Hi,
I've gotten my joystick to work on linux. I'm using Mandrake Linux 10. I had problems getting it to work. I have a 15 pin analog joystick. I had done some research on this forum and found some stuff on modprobing. I looked up the manual on modprobe by entering the linux bash shell and typing:
man modprobe
I found some stuff on jstest also but jstest wasnt a command. I even tried it in super user mode but that didnt work. I decided to do a rpm search on google. I found a rpm search engine and typed in jstest. I got a rpm package for jstest and immediatly installed it. After that I logged in as superuser and did the following.
Code:
su
modprobe analog
jstest /dev/js0 or jstest /dev/input/js0
Now you should be able to see the coords moving when you move your joystick or attatched device.
Congradulations.
I have been trying for 2 days to get mandrake 10 recognise any of my many gamepads but no luck. I did get my joystick working but it is usb and is considered a huma interface device (hid) and not a joystick.
I did
modprobe joydev
modprobe adi
for my gamepad, and nothing. so i did the vebose modprobe joydev and found the insmod command it used, when I tried that is gave me an error saying the module was invalad module format. I think the modules are from a diffrent version or something.
I may try compiling a new kernel, or just use the dam keyboard.
