Adding an FTP install source to Yast

I know this has been covered, but i can't seem to get it right and apparently need some special attention..
I'm trying to add this:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/adrian...386/suse/i586/

to Yast in Suse 9.1 so i can upgrade my Amarok through yast. I installed it from source before. Don't know what i did wrong, but i somehow broke XMMS last time..

Can someone walk me through the correct way to add an FTP source to Yast?

Thanks,
-myk

If you want to upgrade you have to use YOU ( YaST Online Update ). When you run it you can use the button new server and then follow the instructions YaST gives you.

I think you can solve your problem in that way.

i think i have the same problem. the upgrade procedure with YAST Online Update you describe above works fine. but the installation of new software thru FTP gives me "ERROR InstSrc:E_instsrc_no_instsrc_on_media" . it worked before. i have no idea what i changed in the meantime. i figured i need wget, is there anything else necessary, such as an open port or software installed?

greetings,
burkie

TRy these:
go to yast go to change installation source select ftp or http accordingly, then type the server:
ftp.suse.com for example and the dirctory:
pub/suse/i386/9.1
for example. then go to install and type your program name, then search and then you'll figure it out

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1
http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/9.1
http://ops.tamu.edu/suse/i386/9.1

Good luck

thatīs what i did yesterday. and it did not work. i got that error message after typing FTPserver and path. now it works. am installing thru FTP at the moment. i still donīt have any idea why installation thru an FTP server sometimes works and sometimes does not.

greetings,
burkie

Don't know man,
What I suspect is that you did the same mistake I did my first time I did it. I wrote ftp://ftp.suse.com

for server. That's just a guess, I don't know. If it works once, it will work.

Notice: YAST writes ftp:// automatically
