Unhappy add/remove program not working in fedora 6


hi ,
im a newbie.i hav installed fedora 6 twice on my laptop.still the add/remove programs does not work. when i open it, an error message appears which says unable to start. i have checked the dvd for errors and it is error free. what to do. how to install any package. or how to activate the add/remove packages ?

you need to be more specific.
Try pulling up a terminal, typing 'su' and then hit enter. type in your root password. Type 'yum update'. The program hiding behind 'add/remove' is yum; if yum update fails, post the error here.
