Unhappy Add a new windowmanager to GDM

Hi There

I have installed xpde for my girlfriend o get used to linux
It runs because i can start it from kde.
But i cannot seem to add it to gdm session menu.

I've made a file in /etc/gdm/Sessions/xpde and i added the following lines

#!/bin/sh
#
# /etc/gdm/Sessions/xpde
#
# global xpde session file, used by gdm

exec /etc/X11/Xsession /usr/share/xpde/bin/startxpde

then i made it executable by running
chmod a+x xpde

but it still doesn't show up

So i thought well what the heck the menu thingy works fine for IceWM and he i don't use it so why not change the things in that file and replace it with xpde.
that way whenever i choose IceWM it will start xpde but sorry no go either

am i missing something?
I'm googled out.

I don't remember...because it has been so long. But I thought gdm changed the way it handled new WM/DE's...look in the xdm/Sessions file and see if adding it there helps. Sorry my memory is so foggy.

Ahaaa

Apperently there is a dir called

/usr/share/xsessions

in wich you can find ?.desktop files
these you need to add something to the gdm menu.

so you copy the contents of ie kde.desktop
so you make a file called ie.

xpde.desktop

paste the contents and change the exec command and description and whatever you need to change

make the file chmod a+x xpde.desktop

and then it works.

Jeezz now i just wished xpde didn't suck so hard...
busy for hours and it really sucks.
Got to learn how gdm works though
