can anyone tell me how to set up dma for my two discs at boot time? until now i did it through a script written by myself that launches hdparm, but this way of operate is not good, and also sometimes it makes my pc freeze when it boots.
is there some kernel option to enable?

i am using a 2.6.8 kernel hand-compiled
system: debian sarge

hdparm -v /dev/hda (main disk):
/dev/hda:
multcount = 0 (off)
IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit)
unmaskirq = 0 (off)
using_dma = 0 (off)
keepsettings = 0 (off)

If I remember correctly, you can pass that as a parameter to GRUB, see
