acpi actions don't trigger events

Hi I'm using Mandriva 2007 on a Lenovo Thinkpad R51e with 2.6.17-5mdv kernel.

ACPI works. It gives me battery level readings, it knows when the laptop is on battery or a/c mode etc. but acpid doesn't work.

Everything in /proc/acpi/ seems to work in /proc/acpi/ibm/light shows when the keyboard light is on. And /proc/acpi/ac_adpater/AC/state correctly shows when the power is plugged in or not. /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state correctly shows when the battery is charging (plugged in) or not.

The problem is that /proc/acpi/events doesn't register events.

acpid reads from this file and should put my laptop into laptop mode when the power cord is removed. But because this file has no events in it when this happens acpid fails to notice it.

Why aren't events being written to /proc/acpi/event ?

Any ideas? What creates the file /proc/acpi/event?
