Acid-like software for linux?
 

Is there anything like Acid available for Linux? I'm not looking for a midi sequencer, but rather something that will let me mix loops together easily to form songs.

sort of not really yet

not anything that comes close to Acid

there's Hydrogen (but it's more of a drum machine - though it can take external samples)
a lot of the Linux audio stuff is aimed at hard disk recording/midi sequencing (Ardour, Protux, Rosegarden)

tis a shame, one day Sonic Foundry and Propellor Heads will wake up and port to Linux
but we're not there yet

Fruity Loops is very nice and fun to play around with, but it's after all just a juiced up tracker. There is a project to bring a new FastTracker II like tracker to both Linux and Windows called Skale that does almost everything FastTracker II did twelve years ago but it adds some updated Fruity Loopsish graphics. :)

Hmmm... I downloaded Skale, and it looks interesting, but it's definately not very intuitive. Do you have any links to general tutorials about it?

Is this the closest I'm going to be able to get on LInux? I wish Microsoft would hurry up and go out of business so that we can get some good software!

the irony is that of all the people I know who either use studio's or work in some way in the music industry, they all say how crap windows is and how frequently it falls over and how the latency is awful
and all these problems would largely go away if the wretched software houses would wake up and port to Linux

until then it's an Apple, crap windows or never mind

Soundtracker is kinda like what I remember fasttracker was.
Unlike acid, you can't just drag an mp3 in, beatmix and have fun, I'd be interested if you found something similiar to acid.

Ardour is the nearest thing I've seen so far. I haven't done much with envelopes or plugins yet, but it's at least adequate for straightforward mixing.
I highly recommend the newest release...I had bugs and crashes in previous versions.
