Accessing nvidia-settings with xgl...

I chose to start using Beryl with Xgl because when I run Beryl using Nvidia, after a while the screen starts to flicker and I can't run Limewire strangely... Now that I switched to Xgl, things seem to run a lot smoother, I can run Limewire and no flickering (so far?).

My main problem is when I do this, I can not access my nvidia-settings. If I do it through the terminal, this is what I get:

Code:
~> nvidia-settings

ERROR: NV-CONTROL extension not found on this Display.

ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA GPUs on ':0.0'.

ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA Frame Lock Devices on ':0.0'.

ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA VCSCs on ':0.0'.
Is there anyway to fix this? Thank you very much in advance!

Hi, Although I have an ATI; I had a similar problem (I think its the same) : firegl (the ATI "NV-CONTROL" extension) extension could not be found. The only thing I found to work was to restart a dm without XGL enabled.

Same here

I feel your pain guys...

I had the whole NV-CONTROL error messages myself, so I wrote to nvidia and got an answer. Don't get too excited though, I still doesn't work, I was told to export my display with the following command:
export DISPLAY=:1.0

Which is basically the same as starting nvidia-settings with the display argument:
nvidia-settings -c :1.0

But then, I get a Gtk-Warning error "can't open display", actually I get that no matter what display I try to access.

This is where I'm stuck now... as for the Gtk thing, no idea where it's coming from since I'm using KDE which is built on Qt, and not Gnome that uses Gtk. My guess is that the nvidia-settings utility was built using the Gtk libraries.
