I set up a FreeNX on my desktop at the office. When I am at home, I can access the machine from my home computer.
I am running program on the office desktop via FreeNX from home and leave it running without terminating the session. Now I am in the office, how do I access the session from my office desktop?
Is there a special settings or I need to install a client software at my office desktop as well?
no, just the nxclient, but i'd suggest that you went wrong by installing freeNX, as the functionality you need for your own ends is done by the real NX server, no need to go use the separate FreeNX project unless you want unlimited connections to a server, and you lose a lot of the niceties of NX itself by using FreeNX.
I am a little confused. I guess they are two different software, right? One is freeNX and the other is NX server. From your explanation, the FreeNX and NX server do the same function, except FreeNX allows you to create multiple connection, is that right?
NX is the "real" one, but if you align them to windows, "Remote Desktop" functionality is provided very nicely by the standard *FREE* NX server. "Terminal Services" functionality, e.g. LOTS of sessions is provided very nicely by the *COMMERCIAL* NX server, and also by the FreeNX project. if you don't need 30 concurrent connections, you'll have a much nicer time using the official NX server from nomachine.org.
To be honest though, none of this actually relates to your question...
Thanks for your response. The reason I am looking into FreeNX because vnc does not let you access the computer if the computer hasn't been logged in after the reboot.
well, that's not quite true plenty of ways to start VNC automatically, but it is true that VNC is evil, and should be avoided in preference to NX / FreeNX if possible.
